Understanding Whats Underneath

Our brains don’t always respond well to uncertainty or things we can’t control. When life starts to feel unpredictable, we naturally look for something we can control. Sometimes, that focus turns inward, and we begin to fixate on our appearance, our personality, or how other people perceive us. We convince ourselves that if we can just get these things right, maybe we’ll finally feel okay again.

The problem is that we can end up trying to fix ourselves when what we really need is to understand what’s making us feel this way. That doesn’t mean every insecurity comes from a lack of control, but sometimes we become so focused on what’s on the surface that we overlook something much deeper.

The difficult part is that you might not immediately understand what’s causing these feelings. You may know that something doesn’t feel right without knowing exactly why. And that’s okay. Figuring it out takes time, patience, and a willingness to explore what’s going on beneath the surface.

One way to start is by experimenting. Take five minutes to write down a list of things that you think could be contributing to the way you feel. Imagine what it would be like if one of those things were no longer part of your life. How would you feel? Would you feel relieved, anxious, or perhaps a little more at peace? Go through your list one thing at a time and pay attention to what comes up for you.

You can also experiment in your everyday life. Maybe there’s a person, an activity, or a situation that leaves you feeling disconnected from yourself. Try creating some distance from it and notice whether anything changes. The goal isn’t to make impulsive decisions or to avoid everything that makes you uncomfortable, but to understand yourself better and recognize what might be affecting the way you feel.

Another way to begin reconnecting with yourself is through the 14-day challenge, which can help you step back, reflect, and develop a deeper understanding of who you are and what you need.
