Connecting to your true self

Listen to Your Soul and Heart
It’s completely okay to enjoy makeup and doing your hair if it makes you happy. However, when you start doing these things for someone else or because you feel like you have to, it can become unhealthy and create a lot of pressure. At the end of the day, it all comes back to what you want and what makes you feel happy and confident. That being said, it can sometimes be difficult to understand what you truly want for yourself.

Overcoming the Pressure to Be Perfect
Often, when you do something you enjoy, you feel happy and good about yourself, whether it's a sport or an activity you choose to do. This should be the same with makeup and hair; it should come down to whether you want to do it or not. If it drains your energy and makes you feel worse about yourself, then that's probably a sign that you don't exactly enjoy doing it. Though I understand that it's hard to stop because of the standards we face. You might feel stuck because one part of you doesn't want to put on makeup, but the other part feels like you have to.
This is where it becomes important to pause and ask yourself: What do I actually want? Instead of automatically doing something because you feel like you have to, take a moment to listen to yourself and recognize what feels right for you. Connecting with your own wants and feelings takes practice, and it can start with something as simple as setting aside five minutes each day to meditate, journal, go for a walk, or simply do something you genuinely enjoy. Giving yourself this time can help you reconnect with who you are beyond the expectations and standards placed on you.

Embrace Your Choices, on Your Terms
Everything comes back to what you want, but I understand that it's hard to stop doing something you feel like you have to do. So, all I want you to do is set aside at least 5 minutes each day to meditate or do something you enjoy. Another option is to start spending less time looking in the mirror, doing your hair, putting on makeup, or trying to figure out an outfit. It's scientifically proven that the more time you spend looking in the mirror, the more it can actually increase your stress levels. I want you to set a timer for how long you can spend on these things, and when the timer ends, I want you to walk away. Don't start by decreasing your time by 20 minutes or half an hour; just start with at least 5 minutes, and then, if you want, you can slowly decrease your time.
